MILES 2012

Department of Management Sciences, 7-8 May 2012

In TECHNOMOOT 2012, the Department of Management Sciences CIIT Abbottabad organized MILES (Managing Innovation Leadership Entrepreneurship Strategies). MILES 2012 provided a platform to business students, working entrepreneurs, managers, businessmen and academia for mutual interaction and to share emerging business trends. It also provided an opportunity to initiate a healthy competition among the students of the leading universities in Pakistan.

One of the events arranged in MILES was the 5th National level competition with the name of BIZCOM (Inter-university Business Plan Competition) was organized during the event. Details are as follows:


BIZCOM was divided into the following two phases:

First phase of the event:

Introductory Session

An introductory session on BIZCOM was successfully conducted on 29March 2012 in E- block. It was an informational and interactive session of 2-3 hours purpose of which was to give the students a clear picture about the development of business plans.

Speakers included Mr. Tariq Farid, Mr. Syed Qasim Shah,Mr. Omer Hassan and Mr. Zaheer Swati. 15 teams from different institutions attended the event. 

Intra-Campus Business Plan Competition

It was held successfully on 10 April 2012 in which 10 teams participated. Judges of the competition were the respectable faculty members of MS Department of CIIT Abbottabad that included Dr. Waseem Ikram, Dr. Amjad Ali Syed Qasim Shah.
Winners of the competition were:
First Position: Miss Ramla and Ayesha for the Business Plan titled: Ladyana
Second Position: Syeda Sohaira and Bilal Akram for the Business Plan titled: Green o Bin

Second phase of the event:

Inter-university Business Plan Competition

The event not only provided a platform to the business students of 10 leading universities of the country to exhibit their skills but also gave them an opportunity to get exposure of the National gathering of academia and professionals.
Opening ceremony of the event was graced by the valuable and motivating words of Dr. Mushtaq Khan Jadoon, Head, Department of Management Sciences, CIIT Abbottabad.

Top 3 teams announced for BIZCOM 2012 after a tough competition and scoring evaluation were:

The closing of the ceremony was graced by Prof. Dr. S.A.F. Hansu, Dean, Faculty of Business Administration, COMSATS Institute of Information Technology. The judges were presented shields as a token of gratitude and the participating teams were given certificates of participation. The cash awards, certificates and shields were distributed to the winning teams on 8 May 2012 at the closing ceremony of Technomoot 2012.

Management Concepts and Cases (MCC) – A Seminar Series

Management Concepts and Cases – A Seminar Series(MCC)was held on 8 May 2012. Renowned scholars and academicians attended the event and enlightened the participants about  research on contemporary management practices. Professor  Dr. Khair-uz-Zaman, Director CIIT Vehari Campus delivered a  comprehensive and purposeful lecture on “How to prepare research proposal in light of practical case study” while Prof. Doctor Bahadur Shah,Dean Faculty of Law and Administrative Sciences, Hazara University Mansehra shared his research work on “Role of organizational culture in predicting organizational effectiveness-Case from developing countries”. Dr. Mushtaq Ahmed, Advisor Academics, CIIT Wah enlightened the audience about contemporary issue of "Internal Absorption and Foreign Direct Investment Inflows in Pakistan" and suggesting valuable solution in light of present day concerns of the country. A young researcher from CIIT Sahiwal, Mr. Zeshan Anwar presented his research work on “Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in Pakistan: Measuring Impact of Cost of War against Terrorism, Political Instability and Electricity Generation”.

Event was concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Muhammad Mushtaq Khan Jadoon, Head, Department of Management Sciences, CIIT Abbottabad followed by presentation of souvenirs to the worthy guests.

Entrepreneurs’ Corridor
“Hard work, honesty, & concentration are the basic rules for success. You may change businesses but rules remain the same”. This was stated by Ms. Samina Khan, Executive Director SUNGI Development Foundation at Entrepreneurs’ Corridor, organized at COMSATS Abbottabad by the department of Management Sciences from its platform MILES. Responding to the queries of students, she narrated the success story of her own organization and emphasized the primacy of hard work. She added that in today’s world it has become very important to be good at social networking.
Earlier, Prof. Dr. Syed Amjad Farid Hasnu, Dean, Faculty of Business Administration, COMSATS Institute of Information Technology welcomed the notable guests and highlighted the objectives of Entrepreneurs’ Corridor. He added that Entrepreneurs Corridor is organized every year to provide exposure to our business students towards entrepreneurial activities in small and medium enterprises.
Encouraging the students to become entrepreneurs, Engr. Malik Sultan Khan, a prominent businessman shared his personal success story. He identified many business opportunities and shared his vision of how fresh graduates can start their own businesses even with very low budget. He also highlighted that failed and abandoned projects usually hold promising results if approached with innovative mindset but nothing could be achieved without commitment.
Attending this event remained very fruitful for all. It was attended by students, research associates, faculty and guests from the corporate sector.
Dr. Muhammad Mushtaq Khan, Head, Management Sciences delivered vote of thanks and presented souvenirs to the worthy guests. Mr. Shahid Masood, convener of the event introduced the leading students and faculty who organized the event. Organizers were awarded certificates of appreciation.
