CIIT Abbottabad organized 9th International Conference on “Frontiers of Information Technology” (FIT 2011) on December 19-21, 2011. The 3 days conference was held in Serena Hotel, Islamabad. Renowned Scientist/Engineer Prof. Dr. S. Sohail H. Naqvi Executive Director, Higher Education Commission (HEC), Pakistan was the Key Note speaker in the opening ceremony. Program Co-chair Dr. Sajjad Ahmad Madani welcomed the participants, apprised them of the history of event and highlighted the sub-events to unfold during the next three days. Professor Dr. Khan Gul Jadoon, Director CIIT Abbottabad campus, gave a brief overview of the role of CIIT in promoting R&D culture in Pakistan and the contribution of FIT in this regard. Rector, CIIT Prof. Dr. S. M. Junaid Zaidi, S.I., briefed the audience about the achievements of CIIT during the last 10 years and highly appreciated the role of CIIT Abbottabad in successfully organizing the event since the last 8 consecutive years.
The proceedings of the conference would be included in the IEEE Digital Library. The extended version of the selected papers will be published in selected journals. The focus areas included Communication and Networking, IT Security, Internet Governance, Grid Computing, Artificial Intelligence, Software Engineering, Computational Science, Computer Graphics, Image Processing & Pattern Recognition.
FIT has emerged as a leading forum in Pakistan for IT professionals and researchers to discuss and present the latest research trends and results in the field of Information Technology. Besides oral presentation of 64 technical papers and 04 tutorials, 36 talks of renowned international and national speakers from leading universities were also part of the program. 5 PhD Symposia were also a part of the conference.
Technical Sessions were composed of oral presentations of the research papers and invited talks by national and international speakers. CIIT received 235 research papers from different countries out of which 64 papers were selected for oral presentation after a thorough and blind review process yielding an acceptance rate of 27 %. The authors came from different countries as well as from all Provinces of Pakistan. A total of 27 technical sessions were chaired by the renowned academicians. These sessions were a clear cut indication that research culture in our academic institutions is on the rise. A total of 36 invited talks were delivered on the latest trends in the areas of computing and electrical engineering.
A panel discussion was also carried out during the proceedings. The panel consisted of gurus in the field of IT from the academia as well as industry. The panel also proposed recommendations to alleviate the problems.
The event was concluded in a simple and graceful closing session. Program Co-chair Dr. Sajjad Ahmad Madani presented a brief report of the event. Prizes were awarded to the winners and shields were presented to the panelists. Dr. Khan Gul Jadoon expressed his gratitude to all for supporting the event with active participation. Chief Guest of the Closing ceremony, Federal Minister for Science and Technology, Mir. Changez Khan Jamali appreciated the efforts of CIIT in making it as a successful event.
The quantum of success of FIT 2011 could not have been achieved without the presence of distinguished scientists and researchers who came all over from different countries and from leading universities of Pakistan.
