Seminar on “Fundamentals & practices of Islamic Banking” in collaboration with Bank Islami Pakistan Limited at CUI, Abbottabad June 15, 2022

On 15th June 2022 a half day an awareness seminar was conducted in COMSATS University Islamabad, Abbottabad Campus (CUI) on the topic “Fundamentals and Practices of Islamic Banking” in collaboration with Center of Islamic Finance (CIF), COMSATS University, (CUI) Lahore Campus and Bank Islami Pakistani Limited. The seminar started with the opening remarks of the Director, COMSATS University Islamabad, Abbottabad Campus, Professor Dr. Mahroof Shah, who highlighted the importance of Islamic Economic System and the need of Islamic Banking. He appreciated the efforts of CIF and Bank Islami in promoting the concept of Islamic Banking. Dr. Usman Khurshid from CIF CUI highlighted the objectives and the initiatives taken by CIF Lahore for the promotion of Islamic Banking in Pakistan and abroad in terms of seminars, conferences, research Journal, trainings, and sharia advisory services. Mufti Shiekh Nouman, Senior Shariah scholar Bank Islami Pakistan Limited conducted the session on the topic and explained the fundamental concepts and practices in Islamic Banking followed by an interactive questions and answers session with students and local community. Dr. Jamil Anwar, the workshop Coordinator, in his closing remarks highlighted the historic perspective of Islamic Finance during the Islamic golden era and during Ottoman and Mughal Empires. He also talked about the current challenges and highlighted some areas where the general public and academia in particular need research to provide the solution for the future. Dr, Aziz Ullah Sayyal, HoD, Department of Management Science, thanked the organizers, particularly Mr. Asad Rafaq (the focal person), BankIslami, CIF Lahore, and the participants from different walks of life. The program ended with the Dua from the District Khateeb, Maulana Abdul Wajid. A large number of students, faculty, Bankers, industry, Ulamas, and local community members participated in the event.
