Standard Programs upon which the Program is Designed
The Pharm.D program at COMSATS University Islamabad, Abbottabad Campus is structured in accordance with the guidelines set forth by the Higher Education Commission (HEC) and Pharmacy Council of Pakistan (PCP), which aims to ensure international compatibility and promote student mobility and employability on a global scale. The Department of Pharmacy is obligated to periodically review these standards, considering any new guidelines issued by HEC and PCP. In 2013, the National Curriculum Revision Committee of HEC convened to develop a unified template for standardized 4-year/8-semester BS degree programs, including the Pharm.D program (5 Years, 10 Semesters).
As per the unified template, our Pharm.D program spans five years or 10 semesters and requires the completion of 198 credit hours. The curriculum is meticulously crafted to encompass a comprehensive blend of discipline-specific courses and compulsory/general courses to provide students with a well-rounded education. Specifically, 77% of the curriculum is dedicated to discipline-specific coursework, focusing on pharmacy-related subjects such as pharmacology, medicinal chemistry, pharmaceutics, pharmacotherapy, clinical pharmacy, and herbal medicine. The remaining 23% of courses comprise compulsory and general courses aimed at fostering a broader base of knowledge in areas such as English, professional and communication skills, statistics and mathematical methods, and Computers and their applications in Pharmacy, among others.
