COMSATS Literary Society Hosted Grand Mehfil e Sukhn

COMSATS Literary Society organized a grand Mehfil e Sukhn, an event that celebrated the beauty of Urdu poetry, at the Haroon Rasheed Auditorium on November 13, 2023. The event, divided into two segments, was a testament to the rich literary culture of the university and the students’ passion for poetry.

The first segment, Bait Bazi began, began at 11:00 AM. It was a competition where teams showcased their quick wit and command over Urdu poetry. The Bait Bazi was adjudicated by Amjad Sohail and Dr. Rashid Nazir, both of whom possess an excellent command of Urdu poetry. Their extensive experience and profound understanding of the art form were instrumental in their role as judges. The game involved one team reciting a piece of Urdu poetry, and the next team continuing with a poem that began with the last word of the previous team’s poem. The teams were judged on the quality of their delivery and the poetry itself. The winning team was awarded certificates, and their quick responses and fluency in poetry were appreciated by both the judges and the audience.

The second segment, Mehfil e Mushaira, started at 2:00 PM. This was an event where various poets presented their pieces of poetry. The auditorium was filled to the brim with an enthusiastic audience who responded warmly to each poet and every piece of poetry. The event was presided over by Presidential Award recipient Mr. Ahmed Hussain Mujahid. The chief guest of the evening was famed and beloved poet Mr.  Syed Salman Gilani who is critically acclaimed nationwide for his humorous poetry. Another big name who attended the event was Syeda Zahra Batool known for her beautiful delivery of poetry.

The Director of COMSATS University Islamabad Abbottabad campus Professor Dr. Muhammad Maroof Shah graced the occasion with his presence, as did Dr. Jameel Anwar, Qazi Nasir Bakhtyar Khan, Shakeel Awan, Ahmed Riaz, Sohail Ahmed Samim, Ghani Khan, Syed Khuram Shah, Shahbaz ul Hasaan Jadoon, and Abdullah Ateeq. All the poets presented excellent pieces of poetry, which were appreciated by fellow poets and the audience alike. The engagement of the poets with the audience kept the environment joyful and energetic throughout the event.

The event concluded at 6:00 PM, with all guests being awarded a shield and given a warm and respectful farewell. Refreshments were served, and the coordinated efforts of the society received wide recognition. The guests expressed their happiness with the quality of the event and appreciated the COMSATS Literary Society for organizing such a large-scale event.

The COMSATS University is grateful to the respected guests for taking time out of their schedules and presenting their artistic pieces of words with the beautiful symphony. The event was a huge success and an evening to remember.
