Program Description

Development Studies is one of the fast growing disciplines. The graduates of Development Studies have great demand in both public and private organizations working in the development sectors. Development Studies is an emerging discipline and need of the market. The disaster/crises struck regions and rural as well as urban areas’ development projects need professionals to integrate software component of development with its engineering components. Private organizations; government departments; consultant organizations; and qualitative and quantitative research organizations are the potential job markets for the graduates of Development Studies.

The focus of the Program is on perspectives that have a bearing on the emerging and most current trends (knowledge, skills and practices) related to social development issues within the overall framework of sustainable development and inter-related spheres. The program shall provide a sound basis for conceptual understanding of issues related to study of development policies and practices with particular reference to Pakistan. Also the program has been designed in a way where it leads to professional enhancement and increased options and opportunities for the current and emerging jobs in the private and public sectors in the regional, national and international arenas. The program also encompasses the study of societies, economies and institutions of the “developing countries”, their inter-connectedness with the “developed world” and the process through which the international institutions and mechanisms impact upon the overall goals of development within a global context.

The program is on the same pattern as other BS programs at the CIIT. The BS degree program in Development Studies will be spread over 8 semester and 132 credit hours including 6 credit hours of research project. The semester intake of around 20-30 students is expected.
