Program Description

Keeping in view the future requirements and emerging development needs as a result of the rapid growth of transformative technologies and the growing impacts of globalizations, both opportunities and constraints, to the development process having special emphasis on the developing countries, the department will focus on the following aspects:

Offer MS Program in Sustainable Water Sanitation and Development with the Collaboration with Department of Environmental Sciences.

Keeping in view the emerging trends in the development sectors Specializations courses will be offered under the Master of Development Studies program in the following areas:

  • Environment and Development
  • Gender and Development
  • Disaster Management
  • Rural Development
  • Micro Finance and Enterprise Development
  • Governance and Development

Post Graduate Specialized Diploma Courses will be introduced from 2009 onward to provide an opportunity to the professional pool of the development sectors in different aspects of development

To increase and improve the outreach of development efforts and to integrate the theoretical aspect with the practical implementation COMSATS Community Development Unit (CCDU) will be strengthen through direct linkages with the Donor community and Development Organizations.
Linkages will be established with the Research & Development Organizations and Donors community for conducting action research in various aspects of development
Seminars and workshops on different development issues will remain the integral component of all activities of the department of development studies.
Development Network will be created through Linkages with Academia, Development Organization and Donors.

Application and admission

At CIIT the admissions into graduate progams are offered on merit. the merit is determines on the basis of the academic record, GRE/NTS-GAT score and interview.

General Eligibility Criteria 

Pre-requisite:

  • A 16 years degree in the Masters in Development studies with OR Master’s degree/ Four years bachelor degree in social sciences, management/administrative sciences or other relevant disciplines. from an accredited institution, with minimum First division (annual system) or CGPA 2.5/4.0 (semester system) and no third division (Annual system) or ‘D’ grade (semester system) throughout academic career. 
  • NTS GAT (General) with minimum score of 50.

Program Duration:

The duration of studies for MS degree shall normally be, not less than two years and not more than four years.

Course Work:

An MS Scholar will have to complete minimum of 30 credit hours by undertaking 24 credit hours course work from approved Scheme of Studies and 6 credit hours of MS Thesis.

Career prospects

Master of Science in Development Studies program prepares students with a broad, critical and practice-based understanding of Development studies. This knowledge makes them ready for a variety of positions in complex contemporary environments and
teaching careers in universities.
