Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering

/    /  Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering

Overview

Power engineering deals with the generation, transmission and distributionof electric power as well as the electrical devices connected to such systems including generators, motors and transformers. It can play a leading role in rescuing the motherland from the dilemma of energy management. In this stream modern electrical power control system are made part of curriculum. We at EE are optimistic that EE(power) graduates of CIIT Abbottabad will contribute in resolving the energy crisis of Pakistan.

Program Description

At present, more than eighty places are offered to students in the program of Electrical Power Engineering. It is estimated by studies conducted in the field that in the next five to ten years the scarcity of power engineers will reach a critical stage. In many countries including the developed countries the shortage of power engineers is felt acutely. With this scenario in mind and the inevitable addition of more power houses to be set up in Pakistan, we feel that there is greater and urgent need for offering electrical power engineering as an undergraduate degree program.

Career prospects

Power engineering, also called power systems engineering, is a subfield of that deals with the, and of as well as the electrical devices connected to such systems. Although much of the field is concerned with the problems of – the standard for large scale power transmission and distribution across the modern world – a significant fraction of the field is concerned with the conversion between as well as the development of specialized power systems such as those used in aircraft or for electric railway networks.

The career opportunities in the field of Power Systems Engineering are great. This could range from power generation, transmission, and distribution, to emerging areas such as electric vehicle technology and renewable technologies for electricity generation. Apart from electrical power generation and distribution companies, there continues to be strong demand for electrical power engineers in the mining, construction and transport industries. A power system engineer may work for electric utilities, equipment manufacturers, specialized software houses, universities and consultancy companies. The popularity of fields like computer and telecommunication engineering in the recent years has created a shortage of Power Systems Engineers and hence there is a huge demand for such persons in the market. National organizations like WAPDA, PAL, ENGRO and multinational organizations like Siemens, Philips, Shell, Unilever, etc are just a few examples of companies that employ Power System Engineers.
In addition to this, Power System Engineers find careers in Oil and Gas companies and refineries.

It is for this reason that there is a large demand of Power System Engineers in the Middle East these days.
