Environmental Sciences (ES) has received huge attention in recent times. Environmental issues viz. climate change, global warming, ecosystem degradation, air pollution, natural resource depletion, desertification, deforestation, and forest fires, etc. require immediate remediation and solution. It is also vital to safeguard the natural resources, atmospheric health, ecosystem functioning, and diversity of life on earth. In the Department, students are provided with opportunities to learn the ways to protect the environment and acquire skills to find solutions to complex environmental issues. The Department of Environmental Sciences at COMSATS University Islamabad, Abbottabad Campus has been contributing to the protection and conservation of natural resources. The Department comprises highly qualified faculty with diverse backgrounds in a variety of disciplines. Major focus areas include climate change, glaciers and hydrology, pollution and toxicity, soil, air, biodiversity, waste management, and environmental nano-sciences. The Department of Environmental Sciences aims to conduct high-quality basic and applied research, produce qualified human resources, and develop products and processes to meet the needs and niches of academia and industry. The Department is focused to inspire a lifelong commitment to the earth through research and education in science and technology that is essential to understand the environment at the local, regional, and global levels. The Department offers BS, MS, and Ph.D. in Environmental Sciences. Established in 2004, the Department has become a hub for interdisciplinary graduate studies and research and advocacy on environmental issues. The provision of innovative, practical, and culturally acceptable solutions to the inherent and upcoming environmental problems is the long-term goal of the Department.
